Film Constellation has released the first teaser trailer for the new Charlie Chaplin documentary Chaplin: Spirit of The Tramp, which was directed by his granddaughter, Carmen Chaplin.
The movie offers an intimate portrait of the comic icon from inside the family circle. It tells the story of Chaplin’s family “as they embark on a journey into the Romani heritage that helped inspire his infamous and beloved character, The Tramp.”
I’ve been a fan of Charlie Chaplin since I was a kid, and I’ve read pretty much ever book about him, watched every film, and documentary. He was such an interesting and talented person and led such a wild life. It will be cool to get this new perspective on the legendary filmmaker.
This movie is the first time the Chaplin family has collaborated on a documentary about Charlie, and it was narrated by Michael J. Chaplin, and it features interviews with Geraldine Chaplin, Victoria Chaplin, Jane Chaplin and Christopher Chaplin.
Other filmmakers and actors interviewed for the movie include Johnny Depp, Emir Kusturica, Tony Gatlif, Stochelo Rosenberg, Lita Cabellut, and Farruquito.
The movie was written by Carmen Chaplin, Ashim Bhalla, Isaki Lacuesta, and Amaya Remírez García, with editing by Julia Juaniz (Finding Steve McQueen).
The doc will make its big premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival next month.
